Just some doodles, nothing much.

See this is what my mind generates when it's not occupied, so for the love of us all, let's try to keep me occupied?

PS: On a side note I would make the best Mad Scientist ever. Just listen.

And I would too.

I tried coloring this one, but while the guy worked pretty well I just douldn't get that 'shade monster' feel for the beast in the background.

Well you're absolutely right about working better on monsters than humans, but it does overall look nice! Wink

I like the contrast between him and the monster a lot!

They're really pretty much the same. (My school has the latest, but I only have 7) The only major difference is that the newer version have a slightly different look, but since you can customize the look that doesn't really matter, and MORE. So the earlier versions are easier to figure out how to use, because they have less to figure out.

Personally if I had a choice, I'd take the latest, many a time have I gone to use a filter I got addicted to in class only to low and behold it not there.

As basic a thing as blur or distort, ranging to things far far more complex.

They're effects, things you can do to the entire image or just a selection. The newer the version the better the filters. Some even have auto-ripples.

Most of the time you don't use them for a prominent effect, but they can add just the right amount of accent to a piece.

I think that major tools that I use like the History Brush can't be found in earlier versions. I'm not sure if these other tools and filters are included in earlier versions but I use Color Burn, Lens Blur, Eraser, Brush, History Brush, Stamp, Dodge, Burn, Blur, and Sharpen. Photoshop just isn't photoshop without these to me. I barely use it to draw but use it more to edit photos, so others might have different options.

Word to the wise, Dodge & Burn =/= Highlight & Shadow. I personally like to make two additional layers for those two, Overlay or Screen for highlights, Multiply for Shadows, use the light's color on the Highlight layer, and straight black on the Shadow layer then just mess with the layer's opacity. But that's me.

Your base coloring is ok, but the shading is pretty weak, and rather wobbly around the edges.

Do you make use of the pen tool? It doesn't seem you lineart your work, I would suggest you give that a go though, gives better definition to your work. Use the pen tool as well to help shape your shadings.

I'm looking at this coloring piece of yours and it comes off too plain. Your art's nice but lets try adding some details.

Keep it up.

I'm not really a huge fan of inking things, I find it takes up more time than it's worth and I actually like the look of scratchy pencil lines on a drawing. Something about pencils vs pens just makes drawings feel warmer to me.

That beings said I'm a ridiculously huge fan of the Pen Tool, but mostly just because I love vector art. I'm hoping to get my hands on a tablet sometime this holiday season, and hopefully when I do I'll have a whole flurry of new stuff to upload that you will all just drool over. Laughing

And honestly, I'd be willing to bet my coloring skills have improve even since just that old villains image, I mean that was like what two three weeks ago? It's practically ancient! I just don't have anything newer, at least not that I'd show around.

I may have something new shortly though I got inspired looking up Greek deities on Wikipedia again. Moros & Apate, doom & deceit baby!

I happen to absolutely love the scratchy pencil look, but even that can be better defined with a pen tool. The pen tool allows you to do more than the standard lineart. I'm not familiar with the procedure, but it allows you to better delineate your pencil strokes and I've seen it come up with some great results. I myself will have look into it sometime.

The Pen Tool in virtually any Adobe program is a vector path tool, meaning that it's, at it's core, math based. You use it to add points, like grid points, to sort of 'connect the dots' to make a path, you can adjust the anchors of each point which adjust how the line or 'path' enters and leaves that point, essentially manipulating the curve or angle of the point.

It's great for like, adding an outline to something, or selecting a complex area, at least in Photoshop though it's only main action is to select things. You can select far better with the Pen Tool than with the Lasso Tool or any variations there of, but I'm not so sure about using it to making pencil lines more predominate, perhaps use the Pen Tool and then something else on that selection, but the Pen Tool in and of itself, in Photoshop, is just a selection tool.

Illustrator, or any other vector-base-program for that matter, now there's a completely different story, but vector art just can't be warm like pencil art. It's far too clean.

I happen to like clean too.

I am quite familiar with how the Pen Tool works Deceiver, I was merely putting forth a suggestion that you could use the tool for pencil art. The Pen Tool may primarily be a selection tool, but can still be used for variants of things as I know from my experience.

Re: Deception Works

Post by TheDeceiverGod on 11/27/2009, 5:30 am

Yeah The Only Thing I'm particularly happy with in this image is the fire. I'm far better at effects than I am anything else really, and I really want a tablet.

Anyway this is Chaos Font (Font as in a source, rather than a text) the first in a new line of villains I dreamed up, I want to draw them all, but I'm not sure I really see that happening.

But for those of you interested here's his bio

Spoiler:

Destruction's Engine
Name- Kevin Sunders
Age-15
Alias-Chaos Font

Appearance
Hair-Long shoulder length blond hair accented by three long red bangs, arching up.
Height-6' 9''
Weight- 346lb
Dress-No shirt, no shoes, the only actual article of clothing Font wears is a pair of tight leather pants so small it is actually impossible for them to be buttoned closed while worn.
Eyes-Red
Skin-Pale, but tanning. Both arms are made entirely of a silver colored metal.
General-Font is a very tall man, and very heavy, parts of him look almost monstrous as both arms are entirely metal, and upon each shoulder he carries an ever burning brazier, the heart of which can become very hot. His hips and knees both bear dangerous spikes reminiscent of bone but far harder. His knuckles sport similar extensions and his nails are made of the same material.

Abilities

Physical abilities
Metallic Body: Font's entire body, not just his arms, feels and behaves as metal, it is just as durable, and grants him several other abilities.
  1. Enhanced Strength: Font possesses remarkably enhanced strength. He is strong enough to match even full meta human on the battle field, and to date has never met anyone stronger than him.
  2. Physical Resistance: As his entire body behaves as though it were made of metal, Font possesses a considerable resistance to virtually all physical attacks, and, as his body has no seams to speak of, without proper force to warp, bend, or break the unknown material he is apparently made of, Chaos Font is nigh indestructible.
  3. Heat Resistance: Another benefit of his near-metallic body, or perhaps due to his nature. Font possesses a remarkable resistance to heat, capable of being subjected to temperatures vastly greater than humans could survive with no ill effect. Even his hair does not burn.

Mental abilities
Mental Ambiguity: Font possesses an underdeveloped mind. Telepaths and other mentally gifted people are completely unable to interact with him through these means, his mind offers no refuge even while he is asleep, and apparently has little in it than his active thoughts.

Metaphysical abilities
Fire Projection: Chaos Font possesses the ability to project fire from either the braziers on his shoulders, the palms of his hands, or his mouth. However as this ability requires considerable continued concentration on his part, it is seldom used except in extreme circumstances.

Weaknesses
Low Body Temperature: While not generally a problem due to the braziers, should Font's body temperature drop below it's natural levels he finds it difficult to move, becoming first lethargic, then comatose before finally dying. This is particularly dangerous due to the metallic nature of his body, as it loses heat considerably faster than a human body, and despite being able to survive temperatures lower than most humans, if he should be exposed to such for an extended period, there is little hope.
Self Control: Or lack there off. Chaos Font, is name such in part due to the fact that he possesses absolutely no self control. He is physically incapable of containing himself, as soon as an impulse takes him, it is done, often even before he recognizes it's presence. As such he is a violent, cocky individual, as well as being an incurable hound dog.

Strengths
Destructive Potential: Font is nigh unrivaled in his capacity to destroy. His very nature seems to compel him to seek out conflict, to rip and tear at things until there is little of it left, and then to burn it down. There are few things, in fact, which can compel Chaos Font to cease his destructive behavior once he's begun, and it is considerably difficult to force the issue.

Likes- Women, Alcohol, Money, Violence, Fire. {in that order}
Dislikes- Rain, Snow, Water, Hair men, Skinny men, Fat men, Bald men, Middle-Aged men, Men in suits, the American Government, the non-American Governments, People who do not give him women, alcohol, violence, or money.

History/Origins
Kevin Sunders was a juvenile offender sent away for lighting a house on fire, and watching it burn. As it turned out there were several people inside that house, two of which neglected to vacate in a timely manner. Sunders was tried and sent to a juvenile facility until he turned 21 at which time he was to be sent to a full prison for no less than the term of his natural life. He neglected to see the error of his ways, certainly he knew that it was a crime that people had died, but he failed to see how it was his fault, as all he had actually done was to set fire to the building, never holding any intention of harming the inhabitants.

During his first week in incarceration Sunders found himself on the wrong side of the local tough guys, and in the ensuing fight, despite breaking several of his assailants' ribs and a half dozen noses, both of his arms suffered significant defensive wounds from a homemade knife, and following an infection there of, he lost all ability to move his arms from the elbows down. He was transferred to different facility but the damage had been done, there was no known way for him to regain control of his limbs.

But knowledge is relative, and Kevin was soon after approached by those in possession of different knowledge, knowledge of how to restore control of his arms to him, for a price. A government agency of undisclosed name scouted him, and eager for the restoration of his arms, Sunders quickly, and without hesitation joined. His expectations were that he was to become some manner of science experiment, and they were met in full. Several surgeries, and months of agonizing rehabilitation his limbs were restored, and he was made even better than before. Renamed 'Agent Chaos' due to the fact the a side effect of his new endowments had rendered his brain completely incapable of control his impulses, Sunders was quickly spirited out of the country, with the instructions that once he was on foreign soil he was to cause as much destruction and collateral damage as he possibly could.

Two towns later 'Agent Chaos' was captured by the enemy. Unable to give his captors any useful information, and equally unable to indulge their torturers with screams of agony, he was placed in confinement, his existence completely denied by the government that had created him. Unhappy with this situation, Sunders broke himself free, and quickly made his way back to American soil, leaving a wake of destruction in his path. He was not pursued, his captors had little desire to see him again, and in retrospect, security for his cell was suspiciously lax.

However once restored to his country of origin, He realized that he had absolutely no way to reconnect with the agency again, he didn't even know the agency's name. Never one to look on the pessimistic side of things, Sunders quickly found himself a bar, intimidated him into serving him, and got completely plastered. After waking up with nothing but someone else's pants on, he heard rumor that 'no city had girls like Jump City' and so he made his way there.
True History
Spoiler:

Chaos Font's True History
In truth Chaos Font is a literal engine of destruction. One of three entities known as an 'Iron Doll' Font is a living engine created in part by a man known as The Doll Maker.
The Iron Dolls were designed to work in tandem with one another, Chaos Font was intended to be the engine of the mechanism, and is at his core, a literal engine. Designed and constructed as such by the government of one of the world's less popular countries in the hopes that the final result would be able to defend them from foreign assault. However while they possessed the manufacturing capabilities, they lacked the technological ones to bring their creations to life.

It was at that point when they called in 'The Doll Maker' a man with a disputable past and an equally shifty reputation for the creation of living weapons. Through the application of his powers The Doll Maker breathed life into their creations, however in the process Font was born, the living engine of a war machine without any knowledge of what he was. He became violent and unstable and The Doll Maker gave him memories to calm him, however, these memories were less than what the client had expected. Their weapon became impossible to control, and eventually left not only their control, but their country.

As such, none of his memories are true, up until the point at which he escaped his birth country's holds, and first entered America. There is no record of his birth, his family, his criminal record, or any of his actions prior to his escape.
